Push Back pallet rack high density storage rack is designed to allow for both selectivity and dense storage. Push Back pallet rack is named such because the pallet is placed by the lift truck onto a “cart” and then “pushed back” into the rack by the next pallet being loaded into the rack system.
Push Back pallet rack is recommended when you have multiple SKU’s and multiple pallets of each SKU. Since push back pallet racks can be up to six pallets deep, you can store up to six pallets of each SKU while maintaining the ability of selecting a pallet of each SKU.
The cart(s) are mounted on rails installed in the rack structure. A push back cart and rail assembly is called a “lane”. Push back lanes can be two to six pallets deep. From the front, push back looks and acts like Selective Pallet Rack . Each pallet at the front of the system can be selected at any time. The lanes of push back are installed at a slight angle, or pitch. As the lift truck pulls the front pallet out of the system, the pallets behind roll forward on the carts, via gravity, and become the next available (Selectable) pallet.
Push Back pallet rack is considered LIFO storage. In each lane of push back, the Last pallet In will be the First pallet Out. Conversely, the first pallet stored will be the last pallet picked. You should consider whether time sensitive or dated inventory will be impacted.
